Project Focus: Women in Minerals

For this video series we spoke to four of Northern Ireland's largest construction materials companies to highlight some of the careers being enjoyed by women in the industry.

The series was commissioned by the Mineral Products Association in Northern Ireland (MPANI) with the final videos intended for use in their engagements with schools and colleges across the country.

The videos were also provided to the four participant companies (whose details you will find below) for them to use on their social media channels to help in their recruitment marketing efforts.

The MPANI is the industry body for the mineral products industry in Northern Ireland and their role is to make representations to government regarding the vital contribution that the sector plays in the everyday lives of everyone that lives in Northern Ireland.

The MPANI also represents its member companies’ interests by helping to build awareness of the job opportunities and career prospects available to anyone who works in the sector.

The four MPANI member companies to feature in this series are:

The series included five videos in total:

  • 1 x Master asset – a long form video for use with schools and colleges as well as featuring on the MPANI YouTube Channel and website.
  • 4 x shorter video edits – one short video was created for each of the participant companies. This was to be used by MPANI across their social media channels as well as by the featured companies as part of their own recruitment marketing campaigns.

Women in the Mineral Products Industry - short form videos for social media

The short form videos were created in two different formats:

  • Widescreen – for use on YouTube and embedding on the MPANi website as well as that of the participant companies.
  • Square – for use on Linkedin (the primary communications channel) as well as Instagram and Facebook.

Widescreen videos

Square videos

The square videos were created with embedded captions in order that the caption style could be matched to the MPANI Brand Guidelines.

The alternative to this is to use the SRT caption format and this was the caption style for the widescreen videos in the series.

Whether you decide to embed your captions in the video or create a separate SRT captions file, captions are an essential part of video content creation as they make the videos accessible to anyone with a hearing impairment.

Another factor, although less significant than the accessibility requirement, is that the vast majority of social media users watch video with the sound off (with the exception of YouTube).

Video series creation

This project with MPANI is just one of many that we have worked on recently which required the creation of a series of videos rather than an individual asset.

With viewing habits differing across the various social media channels, it is now the case that most of the projects we work on require the creation of a series of video assets designed to maximise the return on investment from the campaigns being undertaken by our customers.

If you have a video content series concept or idea that you would like to explore further, get in touch and we’d be very happy to let you know how the process works.
