The Factory of Opportunity – Showcasing Mid Ulster Manufacturing

We created this short film to celebrate the work being done by members of MEGA - a cluster of manufacturing businesses based in the Mid Ulster area of Northern Ireland.

A pleasure as always working with you Peter. I needed someone who understood the sector and could pull this off at rapid speed. You did a fantastic job in capturing our vision perfectly. Thanks a million.

The aim of this film was to celebrate the humility, togetherness and ambition of the manufacturing community in Mid Ulster, and specifically those businesses who are members of the MEGA cluster.

MEGA is an industry led collaborative network, working together to promote the engineering and manufacturing sectors as a place where people can build high value, highly skilled, highly paid jobs.

The team at MEGA engages in a range of activities in order to achieve this aim and these include:

  • An event series which brings together member companies and guest speakers to share best practice.
  • A degree apprenticeship programme which offers school leavers an opportunity to earn while they learn by securing an apprenticeship with one of the MEGA member companies.
  • Lobbying government to secure further investment in the manufacturing and engineering sector and promote career opportunities in the sector.
  • The Smart Manufacturing Data Hub – MEGA works as an active member of the SMDH to support small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to harness the power of digital tools to enhance innovation and improve efficiency.

Our Brief

  • During our initial discussions with the team at MEGA we agreed that the desired outcome was to build a real sense of pride among member companies about their involvement with the MEGA network.
  • We also agreed that the video should speak to the history of the manufacturing sector in Mid Ulster and its global reputation as a centre of excellence.
  • As always with the work that MEGA are involved with, a key focus for the project was to ensure that the people working in the sector where front and centre of the story.
  • It was also very important that we rooted the project in Mid Ulster through our choice of the voiceover artist and it was for that reason that we chose an artist who was born in the area and had lived there ever since.
  • This ensured that they had an emotional connection to the story being told and would enhance the power of the story.

Due to the work we have done with the team at MEGA over a number of years, we were in the advantageous position of having the vast majority of the footage that we required already available within our libraries.

This was then complimented by additional footage that was sent to us by members of the MEGA network in order to ensure that the final video included as broad a representation from MEGA businesses as possible.

Everyone in the room could connect with the powerful storytelling.
